Does anyone out there have ANY idea on how to get my 3 1/2 year old son to not scream his head off when something doesn't go his way? I hope this isn't a reflection of me! I do tend to yell a lot when I am frustrated...But when he is playing with friends OR family, if he doesn't get his way he SCREAMS like he's gonna die! That is the ONLY way he knows how to deal with it. Here is a repetitive example that occurs about one time a week (EVERYTHING happens the exact same way each time):
Yesterday at dinner, Madison started our prayer. As she was praying Logan busts in with "I want to pray first!" As usual, I had to tell him that Madison was praying first and he can pray when she is done and tomorrow he can pray first. He pouts through the prayer and then it's his turn. He says "I don't want to pray!" Ok, we say and we begin to eat. Of course, he then proceeds to say "I want to pray! I want to pray!" We tell him to go ahead and pray by himself because he already said he didn't want to pray when we were waiting. He SCREAMED so loud my ears hurt. I moved him to the couch and told him to stay until he was done screaming and then he can re-join us for dinner. (This has been an effective method for us to get him to stop screaming...just wish we could find an effective method to prevent the screaming!) Isn't prayer time suppose to be a peaceful experience???
On a lighter note, today he beat level one on some old video game. He was so excited he didn't know what was happening. It was funny to watch.
